A samurai family based in Takai County, Shinano Province. They suppressed the Nakano clan, who were also powerful retainers of the Kamakura Shogunate in Takai County, and prospered as lords of the northern part of the county during the Sengoku period. The Ichikawa Documents (owned by Homma Museum of Art, Yamagata Prefecture, an Important Cultural Property) are the most comprehensive historical material that provides information on the territorial relations and samurai movements in this region from the end of the Heian period to the Sengoku period.
