Ipponzuri (English spelling) Pole and line fishery

This is a fishing method that uses one or several hooks attached to a single fishing line to catch fish. Fishing gear is generally simple in structure, but the fishing tackle and hooks are designed according to the target fish, and artificial bait other than live bait is also used. Fishing methods are classified into pole fishing, hand fishing, and pull line fishing.

Pole fishing uses a rod with a fishing line, hook and weight attached to the end, and targets fish species that swim near the surface in shallow waters. Major industrial methods include pole-and-line fishing for bonito, squid fishing and mackerel fishing, as well as recreational fishing using casting line from the coast and recreational fishing boats for surface and mid-water fish such as coastal red sea bream, horse mackerel, grunt and rockfish, as well as bottom-dwelling fish species such as rockfish, black rockfish, alfonsino, red spotted bream, and flounder. Hand fishing is a method of fishing using a single fishing line, hook and weight without a rod, with the line held directly by bare hands, and is used to target various bottom-dwelling fish species, including red sea bream that live in relatively deep swimming areas. Trolling is a fishing method that targets large migratory fish (such as tuna, bonito, and marlin) that swim on the surface while towing one or several long lines from the stern of a boat. Pole and line fishing can be used in deep areas where net fishing is not possible, in areas with fast currents, and in rocky areas, and is also suitable for areas with low fish density. Pole and line fishing can be used to target many fish in all waters, including the sea, rivers, and lakes, and the skill of the individual angler is clearly reflected in the results, so it has attracted a lot of interest and is popular as a leisure activity. 釣り漁法の一つで、1本の釣り糸に1個あるいは数個の釣り針をつけて魚を釣り上げる漁法をいう。漁具は一般的に簡単な構造であるが、対象魚によって釣りの仕掛けや釣り針などがくふうされ、釣り餌(えさ)には生餌(いきえ)以外の擬餌(ぎじ)も用いられる。竿(さお)釣り、手釣り、引縄(ひきなわ)釣りに分類される。

　竿釣りは、竿の先端に釣り糸と釣り針と錘(おもり)を付けた竿釣り具を用い、浅海の表層付近を遊泳する魚種が対象である。産業として主要なものではカツオ一本釣り、イカ釣り、サバはね釣りなどがあり、遊漁として海岸から行われる投げ釣り、遊漁船で沿岸性のマダイ、アジ類、イサキ、メバルなど表層、中層性の魚、カサゴ、ムツ、キンメダイ、アコウダイ、カレイ・ヒラメ類など底生性の魚種を対象とするなど多様である。手釣りは、竿を用いず1本の釣り糸、釣り針、錘を用いて釣る手法で、直接素手(すで)で釣り糸を持ち、比較的遊泳層の深い水域に生息しているマダイをはじめ、各種の底生性の魚種を対象としている。引縄釣りとは、船尾から1本または数本の長い引縄を曳航(えいこう)（トローリング）しながら、表層を遊泳する大形回遊魚（マグロ類、カツオ類、カジキ類など）を漁獲対象とする手法である。一本釣り漁法は、網漁具では操業できない深い所、潮流の速い所、岩礁地帯などでも操業でき、また魚群密度の薄い所などにも適している。また、一本釣りは、海、河川、湖沼などあらゆる水域で多くの魚類が対象とされ、個人の釣り技術の巧拙が顕著に結果に現れるため、レジャーとしても多くの関心が寄せられ、盛んである。なお、一本釣りにはカツオ釣り機やイカ釣り機などの漁業機械も用いられている。
