In some fields, the English pronunciation of Seytsev's rule* is used, and many dictionaries use it, but the old-fashioned name is still more widely used. In elimination reactions of alkyl halides, an alkene is preferentially produced in which the hydrogen has been removed from the β-carbon with the fewest protons.
