Also known as zebra. A general term for two subgenera of mammals in the Perissodactyla order, family Equidae, that have dark stripes. Although they are called horses, they are more similar to donkeys, and their body shape and cry are similar to those of donkeys. They are found in grasslands and mountains from eastern to southern Africa, and are classified into four species based on differences in body shape and stripes. They usually live in family groups of a dozen or so animals, led by a single male, including several females and offspring, and there are also bachelor groups made up of males. The groups do not have specific territories and share their home ranges with other groups, and many groups can gather together to form huge groups.
