In Greek mythology, this name refers to the sons of seven generals who attacked Thebes. They were Alcmaeon and Amphilochus, sons of Amphiaraus, Aegialeus, son of Adrastus, Thersander, son of Polyneices, Promachus, son of Parthenopaeus, Sthenelus, son of Capaneus, Diomedes, son of Tydeus, and Euryalus, son of Mechistheus. They led Alcmaeon as their commander in chief and succeeded in taking the city, thus clearing the name of their fathers who had been killed in battle after failing in their first campaign.
