Mount Shibutsu

Japanese: 至仏山 - しぶつさん

A mountain located in the northeastern part of Gunma Prefecture, on the border between Katashina Village, Tone County and Minakami Town. It rises to the southwest of Ozegahara in Oze National Park, and has an elevation of 2,228 meters. Before Oze National Park was established in August 2007, it was part of Nikko National Park. The upper part of the mountain is made of serpentine, and the western side of the summit is a steep cliff, but the eastern side is a normal slope. Along with Hiuchigatake, it is one of the two most beautiful mountains in Oze, and the area from the base to the pines at the summit is a treasure trove of alpine plants such as Narrow-leaved Snowdrop and Ozesou. It takes 3 to 4 hours to reach the summit from Hatomachi Pass in the southeast or Yamanohana Lodge in the northeast. The view is good, and there are many climbers these days.

Shibutsu can be seen from Ushiku, which separates Kamitashiro and Nakatashiro in Ozegahara. Ozegahara is the largest highland marsh in Japan, covering an area of approximately 8km, and is well known for its colonies of Asian skunk cabbage and day lilies. Oze is designated as part of Oze National Park, and the entire region is a nationally designated special natural monument. 群馬県北東部、利根(とね)郡片品村(かたしなむら)とみなかみ町の境にある山。尾瀬国立公園尾瀬ヶ原(おぜがはら)の南西にそびえ、標高2228メートル。2007年（平成19）8月の尾瀬国立公園成立以前は日光国立公園域にあった。山体の上部は蛇紋岩(じゃもんがん)からなり、山頂部の西側は険阻な絶壁状であるが、東側は普通の斜面である。燧ヶ岳(ひうちがだけ)と並び尾瀬の美しい山の双璧(そうへき)で、麓(ふもと)から山頂のハイマツ帯まではホソバヒナウスユキソウ、オゼソウなどの高山植物の宝庫である。南東の鳩待(はとまち)峠、北東の山ノ鼻(やまのはな)小屋から山頂まで3～4時間。眺望がよく最近は登山者も多い。
