Stonecrop (Sedum lineare)

A perennial plant of the Crassulaceae family. It is also called Sedum onomatopoeia (male perennial plant). It is widely distributed from Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu to Okinawa and southern mainland China. It grows on rocks in mountainous areas and is sometimes cultivated for decorative purposes. It is fleshy overall, with creeping stems and linear leaves about 2 cm long that taper to a blunt tip. It has an upright flower stalk 10 to 20 cm tall and three leaves in whorls. The ends of the branches branch out and yellow flowers bloom in May and June. It has five sepals and petals, and ten stamens, arranged in a double whorl of five on each side. Closely related species include Sedum uniflorum (a female evergreen plant) which has alternate leaves, and Sedum uniflorum, which grows in Okinawa and other areas and has single flowers at the end of each branch. Recently, the foreign Sedum mexicanum has been spreading mainly in urban areas.

ベンケイソウ科の多年草。オノマンネングサ (雄の万年草) ともいう。本州，四国，九州から沖縄，中国大陸南部にかけて広く分布する。山地の岩上に生え，観賞用に栽培されることもある。全体に多肉性で，茎は地をはい，葉は長さ 2cmほどの線形で先は次第に細くなり，鈍頭である。高さ 10～20cmの花茎を直立し，葉は3枚輪生する。5～6月，枝の先が分枝し，黄色の花をつける。萼，花弁とも5枚で，おしべは 10本あり，5本ずつ内外二重に輪生する。近縁のよく似た種類として葉が互生するメノマンネングサ (雌の万年草)，沖縄などに生え枝先に1個ずつ花のつくコゴメマンネングサ S. uniflorumなどがあり，最近は外国産のメキシコマンネングサ S. mexicanumが都会地を中心に広がっている。
