Alexander III - Alexander
Russian Emperor (reigned 1881-1894). Son of Alexander II. He overcame the crisis following his father's assassination by combining the strengthening of autocratic power with economic concessions, and adopted pro-French and anti-British policies, such as the Franco-Russian alliance. He appointed Witte as Minister of Finance and promoted the development of domestic industry.
