The name of the outer garment worn as an outerwear in Korea (illustration). Unisex. Also written as 'robe' or 'shuui'. The Korean word 'tsurumagi' means to cover the body evenly. In the local dialect, it is called 'furumaki', which is said to come from the Mongolian word 'furumakchi'. Historically, it seems to have come from the 'weighe' (upper garment) of Silla, and is a lengthened version of the chogori, with the body length increased to about 130cm. Its prototype can be seen in Goguryeo murals. During the Goryeo period, it was worn as a 'white ramie robe', covering the top and bottom, with a belt (leopak) around the waist, but the current tsurumagi has no belt, only a tying cord.
