…In English, this part is called chin, but in Japanese there is only the somewhat old-fashioned word otogai, and in everyday life this part is often referred to imprecisely as chin or lower jaw. Inside the chin there is a bone (the part of the mandible called the chin triangle trigonum mentale), and the surface is covered with skin. The chin muscle musculus mentalis, one of the facial muscles, arises from the bone and attaches to the skin, so when this muscle contracts, it creates a peach seed-like depression on the front of the chin. …
