Shibata [town] - Shibata

Japanese: 柴田[町] - しばた

A town in Shibata County in southern Miyagi Prefecture, located at the confluence of the Abukuma River and the Shiroishi River. The Tohoku Main Line runs through the town, and the Abukuma Express Line branches off here. Tsukinoki is a post town on the Oshu Kaido road, and Funaoka was the castle town of Harada Kai, famous for "Sendai Hagi." There is an industrial park, and manufacturing is thriving. Many people commute to Sendai City. The town sustained damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. ^{54.03 km2} . 39,341 people (2010).

宮城県南部，阿武隈(あぶくま)川と白石川の合流部を占める柴田郡の町。東北本線が通じ，阿武隈急行線が分岐する。槻木(つきのき)は奥州街道の宿場町，船岡は《先代萩》で有名な原田甲斐の城下町であった。工業団地があり，製造業が盛ん。仙台市への通勤者が多い。東日本大震災で，町内において被害が発生。54.03km²。３万9341人（2010）。
