stabilizer
A device that prevents excessive rocking and swaying of ships, airplanes, automobiles, etc. and stabilizes their posture. In the case of ships, it is also called a ship stabilizer, and refers to a device that prevents or reduces rolling (sideways motion). There are bilge keels and fin stabilizers that are built into the hull, gyro stabilizers, and anti-rolling tanks that generate a moment opposite to the rolling moment by moving water.

船舶,飛行機,自動車などの過度の揺らぎを防ぎ姿勢を安定させるための各種の装置。船舶の場合はシップスタビライザーともいい,ローリング(横揺れ)を防止または軽減するための装置をいう。船体に作りつけるビルジキールやフィンスタビライザー,またジャイロスタビライザーがあり,ほかに水の移動によりローリングと反対のモーメントを生じさせる減揺タンクがある。
