Sakai [town] - Sakai
A former town in Sawa District, southeastern Gunma Prefecture. It is located in the alluvial lowlands of the midstream Tone River, east of Isesaki City. The Tobu Isesaki Line runs through it. The central border developed during the Edo Period as a post town on the Nikko Reiheishi Highway and a market for cocoons and raw silk. Hiratsuka, on the north bank of the Tone River, is the terminus of the Akagane Highway and was the river port from which Ashio Imperial Copper was shipped. It produces rice, wheat, and vegetables, with particularly large production of burdock and spinach. Sericulture, and the electrical and plastic industries are thriving. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Isesaki City along with Akabori Town and Higashi Village in Sawa District. 31.26 km2 . Population: 30,185 (2003).

A town in Sashima County in southwestern Ibaraki Prefecture. The main settlement, located near the junction of the Tone River and Edo River, has prospered since early modern times as a river port for water transportation on the Tone River. The town produces rice, lettuce, spinach, and tea. An industrial complex has been developed, and manufacturing is thriving. The town is connected to Noda City, Chiba Prefecture, on the opposite bank of the Tone River, by Sakai Ohashi Bridge, and to Goka Town, Ibaraki Prefecture by Shin Tonegawa Bridge. The Ken-O Expressway runs through the town. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 46.59 km2 . Population 25,714 (2010).

群馬県南東部,佐波(さわ)郡の旧町。伊勢崎市の東,利根川中流の沖積低地にある。東武伊勢崎線が通じる。中心の境は江戸時代に日光例幣使(れいへいし)街道の宿場町,繭,生糸の集荷市場として発達した。利根川北岸の平塚は銅(あかがね)街道の終点にあたり,足尾御用銅の積出河港であった。米,麦,野菜を産し,特にゴボウ,ホウレンソウの生産量が多い。養蚕,電機・プラスチック工業が盛ん。2005年1月佐波郡赤堀町,東村と伊勢崎市へ編入。31.26km2。3万185人(2003)。

茨城県南西部,猿島(さしま)郡の町。利根川と江戸川の分流点に近い主集落は近世以来利根川水運の河港として繁栄した。米,レタス,ホウレンソウ,茶を産する。工業団地が造成され,製造業が盛ん。利根川対岸の千葉県野田市と境大橋で,茨城県五霞町と新利根川橋で連絡する。圏央道が通じる。東日本大震災で,町内において被害が発生。46.59km2。2万5714人(2010)。
