...In Japan, they are commonly seen in forests, grasslands, fields, and parks throughout the country except Hokkaido, and are one of the most common wild mammals. The main moles include the medium-sized Azuma mole (Mogera wogura ) that lives east of the Kanto region, the large Kobe mole (M. kobeae ) that lives in the plains of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu from the Chubu region west, and the small Mizura mole ( Euroscaptor mizura ) that lives in the high mountains.
[Ecology]
Moles mainly live in the soil layer within the range of plant roots, where they dig tunnel networks and live alone, occupying territories of about 50 to 80 meters square.
