A Shinshu Buddhist monk from the Sengoku period. He was the 9th head priest of Hongan-ji Temple, and organized the religious sect that his father, Renyo, had expanded into. Born in Higashiyama, Kyoto. Son of Renyo and Rensuke. Given name Mitsukane and called Kyoon-in. He was in charge of the temple's affairs from 1489, and succeeded Renyo after his death in 1499. He issued many pardons to followers and worked to organize the religious sect. In his later years, he handed over the affairs of the temple to his eldest son Ennyo, and promoted the institutionalization of the religious sect, unifying the religious aspects of ceremonies and chanting etiquette, establishing teachings, and establishing various systems for the sect, such as the Three Commandments, the prohibition on building new temples, and the system of one family per family. 戦国時代の真宗の僧。本願寺9世で,父蓮如が拡大した教線を,教団として組織化した人物。京都東山に生まれる。蓮如と蓮祐の子。諱は光兼,教恩院と号す。延徳1(1489)年より実質的な寺務に当たり,明応8(1499)年蓮如没後に継職。多数の免物を門徒に下付して,教団の組織化に努める。晩年,寺務を長男円如に譲って教団の制度化を推し進め,儀式や声明作法の統一,教学の確立などの宗教的側面,また三カ条の掟や新坊建立禁止令・一門一家制などの教団諸制度を定めた。朝廷に接近して勅願寺となり,自身は香衣などを勅許され,本願寺の社会的地位の向上に努めた。<参考文献>稲葉昌丸編『蓮如上人遺文』,井上鋭夫『一向一揆の研究』
