〘noun〙 A gland attached to the digestive tract that secretes digestive juices. In vertebrates, in addition to the liver and pancreas that open into the intestine, there are also salivary glands, gastric glands, and intestinal glands. In invertebrates, the midgut gland of mollusks and arthropods corresponds to this. 〘名〙消化管に付属し、消化液を分泌する腺。脊椎動物では、腸に開口する肝臓、膵臓(すいぞう)のほか唾液腺、胃腺、腸腺などがある。無脊椎動物では軟体動物と節足動物の中腸腺がこれにあたる。一般に下等動物では発達が悪く、消化液は消化管壁の細胞から分泌されることが多い。※科学‐大正一五年（1926）一月号・海産生物の栄養物摂取に就いて〈浅野彦太郎〉「食物の消化は主として消化腺から分泌される酵母酵素菌(エンチーム)によって行はれる」
