...A famous monk in the Joseon Dynasty of Korea. His pen name was Hyeon-eong. His pen name was Cheong-ho. His real name was Choi Yo-shin. He lived in Myohyangsan Mountain in North Pyeongan Province, so he was revered as Seosan Daishi. He passed the monk examination in 1552, and later became a judge of the Buddhist teachings and Zen teachings, and then a judge of the Zen Buddhist teachings, but in 1559 he quit and entered the temple. He advocated the unification of the Buddhist world, the dual practice of teaching and Zen, and the unification of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, and became the founder of the restoration of Buddhism in the Joseon Dynasty. During the Imjin-Jeongyu Japanese Invasion (1555-1559), he called together 1,500 of his followers to organize a loyal monk army and issued a call to arms throughout the country.
