This refers to a condition in which a person is unable to write despite having no motor disorders of the hands or arms, and no intellectual or mental disorders. It is caused by an acquired localized lesion in the cerebrum. It often accompanies aphasia (→ aphasia), apraxia, or agnosia. There are various types, ranging from cases in which automatic writing, dictation, and copying are all impossible, cases in which automatic writing is impossible but dictation and copying are possible, and cases in which automatic writing is possible but copying is impossible.
