Porcelain produced in the Arita region of Hizen (Saga Prefecture) was started by Korean potters who were deported after the Bunroku-Keicho War. With the success of Sakaida Kakiemon's red-glazed porcelain and the protection of the feudal lord Nabeshima, it became the center of the ceramic industry in the Edo period.
