The seven philosophers and politicians who were revered as exemplary figures in Greek society for their thoughts and words in the 7th to 6th centuries BC are generally considered to be Thales of Miletus, Solon of Athens, Bias of Priene, and Pittacus of Mytile. There are also different theories about Cleobylus of Lindos, Pealindorus of Corinth, and Chiron of Sparta, and the legends about them are a mixture of historical fact and fiction. They can also refer to the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Forest in China. Source: Obunsha World History Dictionary, Third Edition About Obunsha World History Dictionary, Third Edition |
