Long-tongued fruit bat (English spelling)

Japanese: シタナガオオコウモリ(舌長大蝙蝠) - シタナガオオコウモリ（英語表記）long‐tongued fruit bat

A general term for mammals belonging to the subfamily Macroglossinae of the order Chiroptera, family Pteropodidae. Small flying foxes that feed on nectar and pollen, hence the name Macroglossinae, due to their long tongues. There are 15 species in 7 genera, and they are found in Africa, the Philippines, Indochina, India, the Sunda Islands, and Australia, living in mangrove forests, tropical rainforests, and caves. They have a head and body length of 5-13 cm, and forearm length of 4-7 cm. Although they also eat soft fruit flesh, their main diet is the nectar and pollen of open flowers, which they are adapted to lick.
