A town in Shiki County in northwestern Nara Prefecture. Occupying the central part of the Nara Basin, the main settlement developed as a castle town and wholesale town for the Hirano clan. The town is served by the Kintetsu Kashihara Line and the Tawaramoto Line. In recent years, it has been developed into a residential area. In addition to rice, the town also produces vegetables and flowers. The Karako ruins are located here. Area: 21.09 km2 . Population: 32,121 (2010). 奈良県北西部，磯城(しき)郡の町。奈良盆地中部を占め，主集落は平野氏の城下町，問屋町として発達，近鉄橿原(かしはら)線，田原本(たわらもと)線が通じる。近年は住宅都市化が進む。米作を行うほか，野菜，花卉(かき)も産する。唐古遺跡がある。21.09km2。３万2121人（2010）。
