A town in Shiki County in northwestern Nara Prefecture. Occupying the central part of the Nara Basin, the main settlement developed as a castle town and wholesale town for the Hirano clan. The town is served by the Kintetsu Kashihara Line and the Tawaramoto Line. In recent years, it has been developed into a residential area. In addition to rice, the town also produces vegetables and flowers. The Karako ruins are located here. Area: 21.09 km2 . Population: 32,121 (2010).
