Japanese: 自然学 - しぜんがく

It is a translation of the Latin word physica, the English word physics, the German word Physik, and the French word physique, and in all European languages it is also translated as physics. Originally, in Aristotle's classification of sciences, it was one of the theoretical sciences along with first philosophy (metaphysics) and mathematics. It refers to knowledge about the individual things in the natural world that are constantly changing, and it encompasses everything from celestial bodies to living things. Therefore, the study of nature in ancient and medieval times was fundamentally natural science, and it is inappropriate to use the term "physics", which was established after the scientific revolution, in pre-modern times. →Physics→Related topic: Metaphysics
