Jiji Press - Jiji Press

Japanese:
Jiji Press - Jiji Press

A representative news agency in Japan, along with Kyodo News. In October 1945, after the defeat of Japan in the war and the dissolution of Domei Tsushinsha, some of the people who had been with the company got together and took over the Domei's specialized communications (such as economic communications) and publishing services for general subscribers, and in November of that year, the company was established as a joint-stock company. Initially, the company's business scope was determined by a gentleman's agreement with Kyodo News, which had taken over the Domei's news services to newspapers and broadcasting companies. However, as the company's internal structure solidified and its business expanded, it began newspaper and communication services around 1959. In July 1974, the gentleman's agreement with Kyodo News was dissolved, and under the slogan "Bringing the world's movements to Japan, and Japan's voice to the world," the company began to fully provide news services to newspapers and broadcasting companies. Meanwhile, based on the JOIN (Jiji Press Overseas Information Network) plan, the company also set out a direction for promoting internationalization, and continued to extend lines to Europe and the United States and strengthen its transmission and reception systems. In addition to its headquarters in Tokyo, the company has six branches, four general bureaus, and 68 local offices in Japan, and 28 local offices and general bureaus overseas (2011). It has special agreements with overseas news agencies, including AFP (France), Thomson Reuters (UK), Dow Jones (USA), dpa (Germany), and Xinhua News Agency (China). Since establishing the Central Research Company in September 1954, it has been conducting research, as well as publishing various books and the Current Affairs Yearbook.

Japanese:

一方、JOIN(Jiji Press Overseas Information Network)計画に基づき、国際化推進の方向をも打ち出し、欧米への回線の延長、送受信体制の増強を続けた。
