A town in Nakauonuma County in southern Niigata Prefecture. The central settlement is on the river terrace of the Shinano River, and the Iiyama Line runs through it. The town is involved in silk weaving, rice cultivation, and vegetable cultivation such as radishes, carrots, and cabbage. There are many power plants. The town is home to the Nakatsugawa Valley, Sakasamaki Onsen, and Nanatsugama of Tashiro (a scenic spot and natural monument). Area: 170.21 km2 . Population: 10,881 (2010). 新潟県南部，中魚沼郡の町。中心集落は信濃川の河岸段丘上にあり，飯山線が通じる。絹織物工業，米作，ダイコン，ニンジン，キャベツなどの野菜栽培を行う。発電所が多い。中津川渓谷，逆巻(さかさまき)温泉，田代の七ッ釜（名勝・天然記念物）がある。170.21km2。１万881人（2010）。
