Plane tree

...Because members of the Platanus family grow well in poor soil and low-lying marshes, are resistant to pollution, and can withstand pruning, they are widely planted in temperate regions around the world. In Japan, they are known collectively as plane trees and began to spread by cuttings around 1907, and today, along with ginkgo, they are the most commonly used roadside trees in many places.
