Khalji Dynasty - Khalji

Khalji Dynasty - Khalji

The second Turkish dynasty of the Five Dynasties of the Delhi Sultanate in India (1290-1320). It is also called the Khilji dynasty. It was founded by Jalal al-Din Firūz (reigned 1290-96), a general of the previous Slave dynasty, and during the reign of his nephew Alā al-Din Muhammad (reigned 1296-1316), the dynasty strengthened its power by preventing the Mongol threat and suppressing other Turkish and Afghan tribes. In the early 14th century, he sent troops from the Deccan region to South India three times and expanded his rule. He reformed the land ownership and taxation systems and enforced a controlled economy in terms of finance and commerce, but this provoked rebellions in various places, and after his death, the dynasty's power began to decline rapidly, and it was overthrown by the Tughluq dynasty.
