Lift net fishing

Japanese: 敷網漁業 - しきあみぎょぎょう（英語表記）lift net fishery

This is a type of fishing in which target organisms are waited for to gather naturally on a net laid underwater, or attracted by bait or light, and then quickly raised to catch them. This type of fishing originally developed from scoop nets, and the principle is simple, but as the nets get larger, the way they are supported when laid underwater and the way they are raised when catching fish become more extensive. There are bottom nets, in which the entire net is submerged underwater, and floating nets, in which part of the net is kept above the water surface by floats and the rest is submerged below the surface. The shape of the nets also varies, including circular, winnowing, and square, but large ones are usually square or trapezoidal.

水中に敷設しておいた網の上に，対象生物が自然に集まるのを待ち，あるいは餌，光などで集め，すばやく網をあげて漁獲する漁業。もともとすくい網から発達した漁業で，原理は単純だが網が大きくなるに従って，水中に網を敷設しておくときの網の支え方，漁獲時の網のあげ方が大規模になってゆく。網全体を水中に沈めておく底敷網と網の一部はあば(浮子)などで水面に保たれ，残りの部分を水面下に沈めておく浮敷網とがある。網の形も円形，箕（み）状，方形などさまざまだが，大規模なものは方形あるいは台形が普通である。
