King of the Chauhanid dynasty of the Rajputs in India. In 1191, he led a combined Rajput army to stop an invasion by Muhammad (→Muhammad Ghori) of the Ghorid dynasty, but was defeated and captured and killed the following year. This paved the way for Muslim rule in India. His love affair with the beautiful daughter of King Jaichand of Kannauj is sung in many narrative poems, one of which is the masterpiece of early Hindi literature, Prithbirājraso (by Chand Bardāi).

インド，ラージプート族のチャーハマーナ朝 (チャウハーン朝) の王。 1191年ラージプート連合軍を率いてゴール朝のムハンマド (→ムハンマド・ゴーリー ) の侵入を阻止したが，翌年の再侵入に敗れて捕われ殺された。これによってイスラム教徒のインド支配への道が開かれた。彼とカナウジのジャイチャーンド王の美しい娘との恋は多くの物語詩に歌われ，ヒンディー文学初期の代表作品『プリトビーラージラーソ』 (チャンド・バルダーイー作) は，その一つである。
