In opposition to him, Henry Raspe was elected King of Germany in 1246, and Wilhelm von Holland in 1247. With the death of Frederick, the power of the Staufen family rapidly declined, and after Conrad IV, who had been on an expedition to seize Sicily, died in 1254, no candidate for the German king emerged from the family (the Great Interregnum). …
