Fiddler crab (Uca arcuata)

Japanese: シオマネキ(潮招) - シオマネキ（英語表記）Uca arcuata

A crab of the family Ocypodidae in the class Crustacea, with one of the male's claws abnormally large. The carapace reaches 3 cm in width, wide at the front and narrowing sharply at the back. It is dark blue-green in color with a purple mesh pattern in the center. The claws are reddish brown. It is found along the Ariake Sea coast to Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Tanegashima, the southern part of the Korean Peninsula, and northern China. The crab found in the Indian Ocean and South Pacific Ocean that was previously thought to be the same species is actually the closely related U. dussumieri or U. coarctata .

雄のいずれか片方のはさみ脚が異常に大きい甲殻綱スナガニ科のカニ。甲幅3cmに達し，甲は前方が広く，後方が強く狭まっている。暗青緑色で甲の中央に紫の網目模様がある。はさみは赤褐色。有明海沿岸から鹿児島，宮崎，種子島，朝鮮半島南部，中国北部に分布する。インド洋，南太平洋に分布していて同種とされていたものは，ごく近縁のヤエヤマシオマネキU.dussumieriかリュウキュウシオマネキU.coarctataの誤りである。
