〘 noun 〙 In the early modern period, if a pond was of use to the village, for example by collecting aquatic plants or by cutting rush grass for fertilizer, a small tax (= miscellaneous tax) was levied on the pond. Pond fee. [Chiho-Horei-Roku (1794)]
