After the division of Standard Oil, Standard Oil of California was renamed Chevron in 1984. It is an American oil giant that mines in 21 countries and operates 8,000 gas stations. It is one of the international oil companies known as the supermajors. It is actively developing oil fields in the Caspian Sea and on the coast of Angola. Its subsidiary is Caltex. In 2001, it merged with Texaco and changed its name to ChevronTexaco. In 2005, it changed its name back to Chevron. Its headquarters are in California.
