Entsuji Temple Garden

...A temple of the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City. Its mountain name is Daihi-san. Before Emperor Gomizunoo built the Shugakuin Imperial Villa, he had a mountain villa called Hataeda Ochaya in the north of Kyoto. This temple was created when the palace of this mountain villa was converted into a Zen temple in 1678 (Enpo 6) by Enkoin Bun'ei, the wet nurse of Emperor Reigen. The dry landscape garden, famous for its borrowed scenery on Mt. Hiei, was made using the garden of this mountain villa, and is made of over 40 stones arranged with low, round, trimmed azaleas. …京都市左京区にある臨済宗妙心寺派の寺。山号は大悲山。後水尾上皇は修学院離宮を造営する以前に，洛北に幡枝（はたえだ）御茶屋と呼ばれた山荘を営んだ。当寺は，この山荘の御殿を，霊元天皇の乳母であった円光院文英尼が1678年(延宝6)禅寺に改めたものである。叡山借景で有名な枯山水の庭は，この山荘の庭を利用したもので，四十数個の石を組み，その石組に刈り込んだ低い丸ツツジを配し，庭全体をもとは白砂，現在はスギゴケで覆っている。…
