An archipelago of about 100 islands located about 80km northeast of the Orkney Islands, at the northern tip of Scotland in the UK. Mainland is the largest island, and a total of 20 islands, including Unst, Yell, and Fetlar, are inhabited. The area is mountainous, with little flat land, and many glacial lakes. The main livestock industries are sheep, cattle, and horses (Shetland ponies), and fishing is also thriving. It is also known for its hand-woven textiles.
