A verse drama by the British poet and critic TS Eliot. Two acts. It premiered at the Canterbury Festival in June 1935. Based on the incident in which Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Becket was martyred after his conflict with Henry II, the play deals with issues of human conscience and faith, depicting the tempters' whispers to Becket in the first act, and Becket's murder and the assassins' defense in the second act.
