Kamaitachi (Sickle Weasel) - Kamaitachi

Japanese:
Kamaitachi (Sickle Weasel) - Kamaitachi
A demon said to ride on a whirlwind, slash people, and suck their blood. It is said that the wounds are similar to those caused by a sickle, but there is no pain or bleeding. It is widely distributed, but is especially common in snowy regions. In Niigata and Nagano, the kamaitachi is said to be the work of evil spirits or demonic beasts, but in the Nyukawa region of Hida, it is said to be the work of three gods, with the first god killing people, the second god cutting them with a blade, and the third god applying medicine to them. In Shikoku, it is said to be a sickle monster found in graveyards or left out in the open. In some places, the whirlwind itself is called kamakaze or kamaitachi, and it is explained that the wounds of the kamaitachi are caused by touching the area of negative pressure created at the center of a small whirlwind.
