Japanese: 三和銀行[株] - さんわぎんこう

Founded in 1933 by the merger of three banks in Osaka: Konoike, Sanjuyon, and Yamaguchi. It subsequently expanded by absorbing other banks, and in 1945 also operated a trust bank. In 1959, it established Toyo Trust Bank together with Kobe Bank and Nomura Securities, and in 1960 transferred the trust bank to it. It was called "People's Bank" from the beginning, and was well-known for the strength of its personal division. In March 1999, when the financial crisis was announced, the government introduced 700 billion yen in public funds. In April 2001, it established a holding company, UFJ Holdings, together with Tokai Bank and Toyo Trust Bank, and changed its name to UFJ Bank in January 2002. In 2006, it merged with Tokyo-Mitsubishi Bank to become The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ.

1933年大阪の鴻池，三十四，山口の３銀行合併により設立。その後，他行吸収を重ねて発展，1945年信託を兼営したが，1959年神戸銀行，野村証券とともに東洋信託銀行を設立，1960年信託をこれに移譲。創立当初から〈ピープルズバンク〉と称し，個人部門の強さに定評があった。金融危機が叫ばれた1999年３月政府による公的資金7000億円を導入。2001年４月に東海銀行，東洋信託銀行とともに持株会社〈UFJホールディングス〉を設立，行名も2002年１月よりUFJ銀行となった。2006年東京三菱銀行との合併により三菱東京UFJ銀行となる。
