Kasumi stone

Japanese: カスミ(霞)石 - かすみいし

A silicate mineral. An ore of potash and aluminum. The main components are (Na, K)AlSiO ₄ . Hexagonal crystal system. It is often found in the form of hexagonal or dodecagonal columnar crystals or dense lumps. Hardness 5.5-6.0, specific gravity 2.56-2.65. It is colorless, white or gray, translucent, and has a vitreous luster. It is the most widely occurring of the feldspars, and is characteristically found in alkaline igneous rocks. In Japan, it is known to occur in basaltic rocks in the Hamada region of Shimane Prefecture. Raw material for glass and ceramics.
