Sanlúcar de Barrameda (English spelling)

A port town at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River in the province of Cadiz in the Andalusia region of southern Spain. Population 47,558 (1979). Although surrounded by sand, the town has an abundance of water even in the hot summers thanks to irrigation facilities that use groundwater, and is famous for its white grape wine called Manzanilla. The town dates back to Roman times and was recaptured from Muslim hands by Alfonso X in 1256. It was from this port that Columbus set sail on his third expedition to America in 1498, and Magellan set sail on his round-the-world voyage on September 20, 1519.

スペイン南部，アンダルシア地方カディス県にある，グアダルキビル河口の港町。人口4万7558(1979)。砂地に囲まれているが地下水を利用した灌漑施設により，高温の夏にも水が豊かで，マンサニーリャという白ブドウ酒で有名である。ローマ時代からの古い町で，1256年，アルフォンソ10世によってイスラム教徒の手から奪回された。この港からは1498年，コロンブスが第3回目のアメリカ探検に出航したほか，1519年9月20日にはマゼランが世界一周の航海に出航した。
