Omiya Plateau - Omiyadaichi

Japanese: 大宮台地 - おおみやだいち
Omiya Plateau - Omiyadaichi

A plateau stretching between the Arakawa and Moto-Arakawa rivers in the southeastern part of Saitama prefecture, its surface is covered with a layer of Kanto loam several meters thick. Its long axis runs from northwest to southeast, with an elevation of 30 meters in the northern area near Kitamoto city and 20 meters in the southern area near the Hatogaya district of Kawaguchi city, but the central area is lower. The southern half of the plateau is carved by the Kamo River, Shiba River, and Ayase River, forming a long, narrow valley running north-south. There are cliffs 5 to 10 meters between it and the alluvial lowland, but there are no cliffs in the northeastern part. Cities such as Saitama and Ageo have developed here, and the Tohoku-Joetsu Shinkansen, Tohoku Main Line, Takasaki Line, and National Route 17 run through it, making it the political and economic center of Saitama prefecture.
