A town in the Oise department in the Valois region in northern France. It is located about 50 km north-northeast of Paris, overlooking the Nonette River, a tributary of the Oise River. A Gallo-Roman town surrounded by beautiful forests, it is where Hugh Capet, founder of the Capetian dynasty, ascended to the throne in 987. It has Gallo-Roman city walls, Notre Dame Cathedral, a representative example of early Gothic style, the Church of Saint-Pierre (12th century), the Bishop's Palace (13th-14th century), and the Museum of Art and Archeology. There are many beautiful bell towers in the surrounding area, including the Abbey of Saint-Vincent. It is currently a leisure destination for Parisians, and is home to light industries.
