Sanmei

A prefecture-level city in central Fujian Province, China. It is located in the middle reaches of Shaxi, the southern source of the Min River. As of 2016, it governs two city districts and nine counties, including Youxi County, and acts as the administrative agent for Yong'an City. Its population is 2.84 million (2014). Since 1958, industry has developed with the development of underground resources in the surrounding areas, and it has become a heavy chemical industrial city. It was incorporated as a city in 1960. It has good transportation access, with the Yingtan-Xiamen Line (Yingtan-Xiamen). The Nansanlong Line (Nanping-Sanming-Longyan) and the Jiyongquan Line (Jian-Yongan-Quanzhou), both of which are currently under construction, are also scheduled to pass through the city. It is the center of the steel industry in Fujian Province, and other industries include thermal power generation, synthetic ammonia, chemical fertilizer, cement, glass, building materials, electronics, and textiles. In agriculture, paddy rice and citrus fruit cultivation are thriving. The surrounding mountainous areas are covered with forests, with a forest coverage rate of over 60%. It is particularly famous for its bamboo shoot production.

中国、福建(ふっけん)省中部の地級市。閩江(びんこう)の南の源流である沙渓(さけい)の中流域に位置する。2016年時点で、2市轄区、尤渓(ゆうけい)県など9県を管轄し、永安(えいあん)市の管轄代行を行う。人口284万（2014）。1958年以後、周辺地域の地下資源開発の進展に伴って工業が発展し、重化学工業都市となった。1960年に市制施行。鷹厦(ようか)線（鷹潭(ようたん)―厦門(アモイ)）が通じ交通の便がよい。建設中の南三竜線（南平(なんへい)―三明―竜岩(りゅうがん)）、吉永泉線（吉安(きつあん)―永安―泉州(せんしゅう)）も同市を通る予定である。福建省の鉄鋼業の中心地で、ほかに火力発電、合成アンモニア、化学肥料、セメント、ガラス、建材、電子、紡織などの工業が立地する。農業は水稲作のほか柑橘(かんきつ)類の栽培が盛ん。周辺山地は山林に覆われ、森林被覆率は60％を超えている。とくにタケノコの生産で有名。
