Japanese: ざんざか踊 - ざんざかおどり

This is a type of drum dance performed mainly during the Obon festival in Yabu, Shiso, Asago, and Mikata counties in Hyogo Prefecture to pray for the prosperity of the village. The name comes from a sung song to the accompaniment of the drums called "Zanzakazatto," but it is also called "Zanzako Dance," "Oni Dance," "Hime Dance," and "Chanchako Dance." The composition, number of people, dance style, and lyrics of the dance vary depending on the location, but people carrying a sacred tree on their backs or wearing a flower hat dance in different formations while hitting a shimedai drum, which is fixed to their stomachs with two supporting poles, with the skin side facing up and down, with sticks in both hands.

兵庫県養父（やぶ），宍粟（しそう），朝来（あさご），美方（みかた）の各郡などで盂蘭盆会（うらぼんえ）を中心に村の繁栄を祈願して踊られる太鼓踊の一種。太鼓の口唱歌（くちしようが）で〈ザンザカザットウ〉と言うのに名前は由来するが，〈ザンザコ踊〉〈鬼踊〉〈姫踊〉〈チャンチャコ踊〉などともいう。場所によって踊りの構成や人数，舞踏の型･歌詞は異なるが，神籬（ひもろぎ）を背負ったり，花笠をつけた者たちが，皮面を上下にして2本の支え棒で腹に固定した締太鼓を，両手のばちで打ちつつ陣形を変えて踊る。
