A Shaivite saint and religious poet in medieval South India. He lived in the 7th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. Together with Uppar and Sundarar, he laid the foundation for the rise of Shaivism in South India. He is considered to have been particularly influential in clearing out the influence of Jainism and Buddhism from South India. The 4,181 songs he composed praising the god Shiva are included in the Shaivist holy book, Devaram (around the 10th century).
