Yamauchi [village] - Sannai

Japanese: 山内[村] - さんない

A village in Hiraka County in the southeastern part of Akita Prefecture. Population 4,841 (1995). Bordering Iwate Prefecture to the east and Yokote City to the west, it occupies the upper reaches of the Yokote River. It is a mountain village on the western slope of the Mahiru Mountains, with 90% of the village area consisting of forests and the settlement located on a river terrace. In the early modern period it was called Yokote Yamauchigo, and eight guard posts, including the Komatsugawa Guard Post, were located between the village and the neighboring Morioka Domain. The central town of Ainono is the confluence of the Yokote River, Matsukawa River, Kurosawa River, and Budo River, and is connected by the Hirawa Kaido (National Route 107), which connects the Omono River basin and the Kitakami River basin.

秋田県南東部，平鹿郡の村。人口4841(1995)。東は岩手県，西は横手市に接し，横手川の上流域を占める。真昼山地の西斜面にあたる山村で，村域の90％が山林からなり，集落は河岸段丘上に分布する。近世は横手山内郷と呼ばれ，境を接する盛岡藩領との間に小松川番所など八つの番所が置かれていた。中心の相野々（あいのの）は横手川と松川，黒沢川，武道川の合流点にあたり，雄物川流域と北上川流域を結ぶ平和（ひらわ）街道(国道107号線)が通じる。
