A famous anthology of medieval European poems. It is a collective name for the works contained in a parchment manuscript handed down to the Benediktbeuern Abbey in Upper Bavaria, and means "Beuern Songs." It was named by the editor JA Schmeller when it was first published in 1847. It is believed to be a 13th century manuscript, but the place and year of its creation are unknown. There are no authors listed on the individual works in medieval Latin, and the content is divided into three sections: (1) 55 moral and satirical poems, (2) 131 love poems (plus 48 Middle High German Minnesangs), and (3) 35 songs about drinking and gambling, with six religious dramas added at the end.
