The Thirty-Six Letters - Sanjurokujibo (English spelling)

Japanese: 三十六字母 - さんじゅうろくじぼ（英語表記）sān shí liù zì mǔ

In Chinese, the term refers to 36 letters, or representative characters of 36 types of consonants. The 36 are the labial sounds bang, lan, ming (drab labial sounds); not, shi, feng, and wei (light labial sounds); the lingual sounds duan, toang, ding, and ni (rhetorical sounds); zhi, chu, cheng, and niang (supra-rhetorical sounds); the dental sounds jing, qing, follow, xin, and ye (dental sounds); zheng, zhu, shi, xi, and xi (orthodental sounds); the guttural sounds shadow, xiao, hako, and yu (semi-rhetorical sounds); and the semi-dental sound day.
