A beautiful passerine bird of the crow family with long tail feathers (illustration). Overall length is about 66 cm, tail length around 45 cm. The head and throat are black, with a large white or pale blue spot on the back of the head, and the back and tail are a beautiful purplish gray-blue color. The chest and sides are pale blue, and the abdomen is white. There is a white spot on the tip of the tail. The beak and legs are red. It lives as a resident bird in the forests from low mountains to plains in China south of Hebei Province, Indochina, and the eastern Himalayas. It is kept as a pet bird in China, and has been imported to Japan for a long time.

尾羽の長い美しいスズメ目カラス科の鳥(イラスト)。全長は約66cm。尾長は45cm前後。頭部とのどは黒色で,後頭部に白色ないし淡青色の大きな斑があり,背から尾は美しい紫がかった灰青色である。胸とわきは淡青色で,腹部は白い。尾の先端部に白斑がある。くちばしと脚は赤い。中国河北省以南,インドシナ,東部ヒマラヤの低山から平地の林に留鳥として生息する。中国では飼鳥として愛玩され,日本にも古くから輸入された。
