An old town in Kinosaki County in northern Hyogo Prefecture. The city center is a hot spring town on the left bank of the Maruyama River, and is served by the San'in Main Line. Kinosaki Onsen is said to have been discovered by the monk Dochi in 717, and has been known since ancient times as Tajima-no-yu. The spring contains earth chloride and is weakly saline. Temperatures range from 40 to 75°C. Most of the inns have indoor baths, but there are also a few long-standing public baths. The town was the setting for Shiga Naoya's "At Kinosaki" and "A Dark Night's Passage." In April 2005, it was incorporated into Toyooka City along with Takeno Town and Hidaka Town in Kinosaki County, and Izushi Town and Tanto Town in Izushi County. 31.19 km2 . Population: 4,300 (2003). → Related article San'in Kaigan National Park Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
